Irving School District hired private investigator to check out Board President

Dallas Morning News reporter Avi Selk writes about the Irving school district’s hiring of a private investigator to looking actions by then-board member and now board president Steven Jones.

He writes, “Irving ISD has hired a private investigator to question staff, collect documents and look for evidence that school board President Steven Jones tried to undermine Superintendent Dana Bedden.

Bedden authorized the investigation three days after a split school board censured Jones in early April. In that 4-3 vote, Jones’ colleagues accused him of trying to micromanage the district by threatening staffers’ jobs, among other charges.

The district directed a former U.S. Department of Education investigator, Susan Mattison, to “determine whether evidence exists to support” the charges and whether Jones broke board policy or state laws.
