Rodriguez retains private investigators

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has hired private investigators as his legal team prepares his appeal of a 211-game suspension by Major League Baseball for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez is using the same firm, Guidepost Solutions, that successfully contested a 2011 rape allegation against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, according to New York Magazine.

Guidepost Solutions, based in New York, is headed by former federal prosecutor Bart Schwartz and has been working with Rodriguez’s lawyers in recent weeks, the magazine reported.

Andy O’Connell, Guidepost’s chief executive officer, declined to comment about Rodriguez’s case.

Guidepost uncovered damaging information about Strauss-Kahn’s accuser during its investigation and prosecutors dropped all charges against the former International Monetary Fund director.

On Monday, MLB suspended Rodriguez for the remainder of the 2013 season and all of next season. He appealed the penalty and returned to the field for the Yankees this week after recovering from hip surgery in January.

Rodriguez made his Yankee Stadium season debut on Friday night and will continue to play while awaiting an arbitrator to hear his appeal.
